Earlier this year Google released Google + (plus), a social space for individuals which promises to provide functionality similar to Facebook. After launch it was apparent that there was no equivalent to Facebooks “Pages”, a social space for businesses and organisations.
After ironing out a few wrinkles in the public dashboard, Google promised to deliver a “Pages” space for businesses towards the end of 2011. Well that time has come, and Google + (plus) pages has arrived, this facility promises to provide even wider syndication for local businesses by connecting into existing Google Places accounts and providing a bolster for online brand security.
That being said, Google have got a long way to go before they put a dint in Facebooks armour, the functionality and collaboration possibilities are a little restricted. If you have a team and want them to manage a profile as a group then you’ll be disappointed, perhaps this will be loosened up in future releases.
Go now and secure your brand inside the new Google Pages dashboard…before someone else does!
